As parents and camp owners we are involved with each camper and the entire program. Our reputation is best described as “ultra hands on”. We make all decisions based on what we would do for our own children.

We understand what a big decision choosing a camp is and we would be delighted to speak with you personally.

Sincerely,

Mitch and Stephanie Reiter
Owners and Directors

Since we are only as good as our worst staff member, we are proud to say we are doing pretty well! Our camp would not be what it is without our caring, devoted, dependable and loyal staff.

It starts at the top and trickles down to everyone else. We have a lot of Senior Adult Staff, they make up the supervisory level that manages and oversees the college aged bunk staff, those living with your children. The important attribute is that these leaders effectively connect and build trust with their campers and staff.

Below is a brief look at some of our Key Staff members, not everyone is listed, as this list can go on for quite a bit, as we have many terrific staff members that we are very proud of.

Bob Miller
Boys’ Head Counselor
Over 40 years at Camp Towanda, started as a young camper, met his wife here, his sons are counselors and his mother-in-law was the former girls’ head counselor! Everyone looks up to Bob for leadership. Tradition runs through his blood! In the off season he is a teacher in the New York City school system.

Linda Lowell
Girls’ Head Counselor
Experienced camper and counselor and now at Camp Towanda for many years. Her children are campers and her spirit and stamina positively influence the girls’ character and development at camp.

Linda’s enthusiasm and zest are contagious. In the off season, she is a special needs teacher for the hearing impaired.

Michael Pelton
Assistant Boys’ Head Counselor
Began his camping career as a college student at Camp Towanda and has gone through all the counselor levels (counselor and Group Leader).

Michael also met his wife at camp and they are raising their family here. Michael has a great sense of humor and is a great friend to the campers. In the off season he is a high school athletic trainer and EMT.

Marni Denenberg
Assistant Girls’ Head Counselor
Marni sets the tone for “hands on” care and coverage of our kids, 24 hours a day. The ultimate in supervision, and “inspecting not expecting”, of our bunk counselors. Campers, counselors and parents love her, too! Marni is an experienced camp mom as well, her 3 children all attend Towanda. In the off-season, Marni is an adoption coordinator.

Sue Hecht

Program Director
The who, what, where and when at camp happens because of Sue’s attention to detail. The daily program is coordinated based upon her creative managerial skills of balancing variety, interests and feedback. The result is a great and exciting program. Indicative of our Senior Staff, Sue is a mom of 2 of our campers.

Jane Spielberger
Jane Spielberger
Waterfront Director
A parent of campers, organized, a natural manager, a qualified instructor, a safety guru and on top of her game all around. Jane is the dictionary definition of who we would want running our waterfront program. The kids love her, the staff respects her. This is the makeup of our staff, those taking care of your children.

Jill Rosenthal

Tour Coordinator
Those that visit our camp in action will speak with Jill, who will help with directions, lodging and all the coordination. You don’t have to worry about anything! She adds the comforting perspective as a satisfied mother of campers.

Jared Reiter

Group Leader
Born and raised at Camp Towanda, Jared is typical of our college-aged staff we grow and attract. His enthusiastic and contagious love of camp, spirit and tradition make for a role model Group Leader and counselor. Jared and his friends make a difference in the lives of their campers.

Robert Edwards

Tennis Director
Passion, stamina and professionalism are a few of the ingredients our staff brings to our program. Robert supervises his tennis specialists and is “right there” with the campers helping develop and improve their individual skills. Dedicated to camp for over ten years, it is staff like Robert that makes the difference.

Andy Miller

Special Events Director
What would camp be without Evening Activities and Special Events, “Miller” is the best producer and it often feels as if we are living on a cruise ship with all the excitement and laughter. A third generation Towanda-er who has grown through all the ranks and is now giving back to his summer home while in law school.

Amy Horowitz

Group Leader
As a 2nd generation Towanda camper, Amy has been a Camper Captain, Olympic General and General Counselor. She now adds a spark of leadership and excitement to Girls’ Camp from all of her experiences here. She is also a mom and camper parent.

Buster & Tracy Waters

Outdoor Adventure Directors
Buster & Tracy raise the bar of expectations, enhance the confidence of taking on a challenge and demonstrate the results of healthy energy. Their positive impact is felt throughout camp with each and every camper and counselor resulting in excitement, adventure, trust, self-confidence and safety awareness. Tracy & Buster live at camp year round.

Sean Trindall

Athletic Director
Coordinating inter and intra camp sports for everyone who wants is what he does. If one wants to be on a team, then “Boston Sean” makes it happen. Our athletic program is about participating and developing one’s skills while having fun and being part of a team.

Dusty Fox

Office Manager
Year round Dusty takes care of the phone, mail and supervises our office staff. Her attention to detail exemplifies the personal attention that is evident throughout our program. Dusty is a former school teacher and a very experienced camper and counselor.

Mark Zides

Operations Director
“Z” is the man who takes care of overseeing our staff recruitment team, traveling the country and the globe to face to face interview our staff. He is an experienced camp professional with over 30 years of handling every possible position (truly from bottle washer to chef). In regards to logistics, we have no problems at camp, we have “Z”.

Ellen Levy

Health Center Manager
Coordinating our Nurses, EMT and Doctors along with the management of our modern, updated Health Center, Ellen’s energy, experience and enthusiasm cures all at Camp Towanda. A terrific liaison for parents when they need it most . . . and to boot, Ellen is a dentist!

Laura Goldwasser

Camp Mom
As a terrific mom herself, she tucks our campers in, she gives them an extra hug, she’ll read them a bedtime story and she’ll let the parents know the score!

Aunt Jo

Camp Mom
Aunt Jo’s special place is The Infirmary, making sure any patients have all the right comforts and attention. Her love, patience and care is the hallmark of The Infirmary… be it through a story or a cup of soup! In the off-season, Aunt Jo is a patient representative at Sloan-Kettering.

Erica Gulliver

Media Director
Ask anyone at camp, Friday Nite Flix, is our extremely popular and entertaining weekly TV Show Revue. Erica and her media team produce FNF, as well as our yearbook video, weekly newsletter, (The Towanda Times) radio station (WCTR-1600 AM) and manage the website (This is it!).
